Are you ready for those three dirty little words back to school? It’s hard to believe, but starting August 11th, I’m officially back on contract time. My firsties will join me the following Monday. The summer truly flew by.
So, I got to thinking… What are we going to do?
Well, first I need to figure out what I am going to do and that is stop sleeping until 8 or later and staying in my pajamas until way past the morning. Heh. So, I made myself a checklist of what I want to do the first week of school. Here’s what I came up with:
It’s all pretty much the obvious stuff, but after not being in school since mid-June, I just need to make sure that I know what I’m doing. My main goal for the first week of school is that my students and I have fun, connect, and communicate. I also want to make sure we have rules and procedures ready for the rest of the school year.

What’s included:
One activity my students and I will complete is this class pendant. Aren’t they the cutest little photos? Each student will get a large photo template and will draw a self portrait. I will then tie them altogether and hang them in our classroom. My example is my family- me, Paul, and our pups. I may or may not have this hanging in our dining room.
Of course, here’s a close-up of the babies.
This is my favorite project. It’s a yearlong one and I’m pretty much obsessed with it. It’s a little scrapbook for the kids to fill in after each holiday/event.
Holidays and events that are included are: Back To School, Halloween, I’m Thankful For…, What I Want For Christmas, 3 Goals For The New Year, Our Valentine’s Day Party, Spring Break, Field Day, and Why I Loved Kindergarten/1st Grade/2nd Grade.
Here’s the cover:
And, inside!! Side note: pay no attention to how awful I drew that little girl in the picture.
Another project we will complete is a “My Snapshots” page. It comes with a little craftivity which includes the head and hands. I didn’t have yarn at home, but my firsties will probably make theirs with yarn for hair.
There’s also a booklet for them to complete about their first week of school!
Isn’t it great? I am pretty excited to get it all ready and have my firsties do it all!
